Young Carers

Mrs E Price – Young Carer lead at OSA

What is a Young Carer?

A young carer is a student who cares for, or is affected by, a family member who has a physical or mental illness or who has a problem with the misuse of drugs or alcohol.

The level of responsibility assumed by a young carer is often inappropriate to their age and of a level beyond simply helping out with jobs at home and as such it may impact on the education of the young person. Our aim at Ormiston Sudbury Academy, is therefore to support young carers within the Academy and to signpost support from other agencies.

Supporting Young Carers at OSA

The Academy works closely with Suffolk Family Carers and National Carers Trust to identify and support young carers and our Suffolk Family Carers dedicated support worker is Sheree Driver. Sherie can come into the Academy to speak with young carers and she can be contacted on 01473 835477 or by text on 07833289030
